Furniture

The WCC began to produce pieces of furniture made from local pine in 2007. The program was designed to be part of a training course, to prepare the participants for the construction of the WSC. The wood working and cabinet making aspects of the course, turned out to be very popular among participants and a number of furniture items were made. The items were outstanding quality and were offered for sale at 80 Bathurst Street under the business name, Affordable Furniture. The result of these actions was that there was a significant interest shown by local people and sales made of the items on display.

The accessibility and use of local selected timbers, pine and river red gum, are available and make the cost of this training minimal.

The furniture shop is now fully operational and has a large variety of items from household furniture to custom made, hand crafted timber tables, and corporate boardroom tables. There is a range of indoor and outdoor timber furniture -  made to order, plus curtains and fabric furnishings featuring indigenous designs.

Market opportunities have been identified below and opportunities the WCC need to consider:

·       High value market - large corporates, diplomats, government offices

·       Retail Household furniture - production and sales

·      Specialist products - outdoor furniture and hand crafted items

·       Franchise - merchandise with complimentary accessories

·       Furnishings - curtains and fabrics using local Aboriginal designs

·       Training - opportunity to learn with Industry Associations
