Drill straight through the bottom frame of the bed spring in all four corners, with a 3/8 inch hard drill. Put an eye bolt through each drilled hole and secure with a nut. The nut is at the bottom of the frame and the eye is sitting on top. Locate the support rails on your veranda roof. This is very important to ensure the safety of the hanging mid century daybed. They are usually easy to find. Look for seams in your roof and a pattern of nail heads, screws or recesses. Measure the width and length of your bed springs. Use these dimensions to mark the four corners of your roof.
When the preliminary brands are made, move them over the nearest roof beams. Use a little less than your 5/16 inch pivot bolts to drill control holes in each brand. This will make it easier to screw the bolts and prevent the roofing of wood. Screw the swing bolt hooks into the steering holes. Measure from a hinged hook to the desired height of the bottom of the bed. With this measurement, use balsa to cut four heavy pieces of the chain or cut yourself into the iron trade. Put an “S” hook in each eye bolt on the bed.
Attach one end of a chain into an “S” hook and the other end of the pivot hook above it, on the ceiling. Repeat for the remaining three corners. Your bed is now hanging. Place a matching mid century daybed or a coating that will match your bedding, on the feathers. The bed skirt comes camouflage bed springs, as well as decorate your veranda. Carefully place a mattress over the bed skirt without moving it and dress the bed with sheets, blankets and quilts. Fill the bed with piles of pillows during the daytime and at night relax.
Tips and warnings
You may need a helper to hold your springs while attaching the chain and hanging it. If no one is available, place a chair in each corner and support the bed springs in the seats. If your bed feathers have rusted on them, spray with a clear acrylic sealant before mounting the hanging bed, to prevent the rust from transferring to your bedding.
