Bed platforms are a modern and stylish alternative to expensive furniture. These beds, which are basically boxes stacked one on top of the other, can be designed platform bed plans with or without a headboard and can be modified as children grow up. Roll-up or storage beds add versatility in apartments and small rooms. Build a single-size platform for small children or teenagers, use it as a sofa bed and cover it with a standard mattress, foam mattress or futon. Or use a “bunk-type board” as a platform and just add legs.
Construct the lower base with 1 by 10-inch planks (2.5 by 25 cm) and the base with 1 by 4 inches (2.5 by 10 cm) planks. As you will place the planks by their sides, you have a height of 14 inches (35 cm). Add 2 pieces of plywood 1 inch thick and finish with a 4-inch mattress and your bed will have a total height of 20 inches (50 cm). This is a comfortable distance for an adult but you may prefer to use shorter sides for a children’s bed or build the base of the bed only 10 inches high. Add the diy build a platform bed as the child grows. Build the base: counter side by side on the edges, using L-shaped supports or wooden corner blocks.

Cut three or four pieces of support, but cut them 1 1/2 inches (3.7 cm) shorter than the head and the foot of the bed, since they will be placed between the sides instead of going through them. Screw the braces, on the inside of the base, together with the L-brackets using the screws. Apply wood glue to the top of the side bases and braces and cover them with 3/4 or 3/8 inch (1.9 or 0.9 cm) plywood or MDF. Cut it to cover the top of your base. If you are going to cover the base, fabricate the sides and ends of the platform bed plans do it yourself at least 4 inches longer in the entire area.
Whether you finish only the base or the base and the platform, the top surface should be a few inches larger than the width and length of the mattress. This gives you space so that children do not hit their fingers. Remember, start with the sides of the planks to form a box, secure the corners with L-brackets and place splints to reinforce them. Lift the platform before placing the plywood or MDF cover. Make sure that all build your own bed frame supports rest on the base. Place each one of them in the lower part of the cover with L-shaped supports and screw them.
